There are 18 gates in Terminal 1 and only 14 in Terminal 2. International flights that have not been pre-cleared are handled in Terminal 1.

Oakland International Airport is located at 37.71270467913325, -122.21983936158584, 3 meters above sea level.

History of Oakland Airport

Oakland began exploring the possibility of building an airport as early as 1925. In April 1927, the 21-day construction of the longest runway in the world at the time (7,020 feet/2,140 meters) began and allowed it to be ready for the start of the Dole race in the same year. In a September 17 ceremony, Charles Lindbergh formally opened the airport.

In its early days, Oakland was the departure location for several important flights, including Charles Kingsford Smith's 1928 US-Australia voyage and Amelia Earhart's 1937 final flight. The airport's lengthy runway allowed for safe takeoff rolls for fuel-heavy aircraft.

When Earhart set out on her final, doomed flight, she did so from this airport. She had every intention of returning home after completing a round of the world.

Signature Flight Support has established itself as Oakland Airport's go-to FBO. The FBO at OAK was the first in the Bay Area before BBA Aviation purchased Landmark Aviation. Landmark's twelfth site opened in 2011.

The FBO is conveniently situated at Hangar 5 on OAK's North Field. Already, Landmark has improved the FBO terminal and begun hangar and property upgrades as part of a multimillion-dollar renovation project.

KaiserAir offers fixed-base operator (FBO) services at Oakland's North Field, where the company repairs and maintains Gulfstream, Hawker, Cessna, and other business jets. Kona Shuttle, KaiserAir's Hawaii service, also offers charter business jets.

About Oakland, California

In Alameda County, California, Oakland serves as the largest city and the county seat. It is a major West Coast port and the third-most populous city in the San Francisco Bay Area.

On May 4, 1852, an act was enacted to incorporate the city, and on March 25, 1854, the incorporation was officially recognized. It was founded under a charter. It was granted as a vast rancho in the New Spain colony in the late 18th century.

San Francisco was built on this site because the slope logged oak and redwood trees. Because of its flat terrain and rich soils, it has developed into a prosperous agricultural center.

After the devastating 1906 San Francisco earthquake, many residents fled to Oakland, where they helped boost the city's population, housing stock, and infrastructure. It expanded throughout the 20th century thanks to the success of its port, shipyards, and automobile sector.

As of June 2022, Oakland had a population of 451,618 and is one of the most dynamic ports in the US due to its role as a commercial hub. Various ecosystems, including prairie, oak woodland, and north coastal scrub, historically existed within its borders in California.

Weather in Oakland, California

At least 0.04 inches of rain or snow falls on a given day to qualify as a wet day. Oakland International Airport experiences seasonal changes in the frequency of rainy days.

The wetter season occurs from November 4 to April 10, with a greater than 15% chance of rain on any given day. February is the wettest month, with 7.9 days on average receiving at least 0.04 inches of precipitation.

The dry season begins on April 10 and continues for 6.8 months, ending on November 4. At an average of 7.9 days, February is the wettest month. The highest annual probability of rain alone occurs on February 20, at 30%.

Dew points closer to zero tend to be dry, while those closer to one hundred might be somewhat sticky. While the temperature may decrease at night, a humid day is usually followed by a muggy night because the dew point changes more slowly than the temperature.

Throughout the year, there is very little variation in the perceived humidity level, as assessed by the proportion of time in which the humidity comfort level is muggy, oppressive, or miserable.

Clear, rain-free days with perceived temperatures between 65- and 80 degrees Fahrenheit are ideal for tourists in Oakland. The best time to visit Oakland, California, for outdoor activities is from late June through September.

Useful Contact Details

In a crisis, a single number in the United States can be dialed for help with medical emergencies, fires, and burglaries.

  • Be aware of your surroundings and trust your instincts. If something doesn't feel right, don't hesitate to move away from the situation.
  • Keep your belongings close and be extra vigilant when carrying valuables or money. Avoid wearing flashy jewelry or carrying large amounts of cash with you.
  • Be cautious when using ATMs, especially in busy or unfamiliar areas. Cover the keypad when entering your PIN.
  • When driving, always lock your doors and keep valuables out of sight—park in well-lit areas whenever possible.

US Emergency Number: 911

Simply dialing 911 from any phone will connect you to an operator who will ask you questions and then connect you to the nearest emergency response team. The operator will likely ask you several questions, some of which are as follows:

  • Where the emergency is taking place.
  • The number from which you are making the call.
  • The nature of the emergency.
  • Specific details of the urgent situation.

If you or a family member accidentally dials 911, stay on the line, so it is not assumed that an emergency needs to be reported. Ideally, they should remain on the line and apologize to the operator for the error.

You can contact the city police or the hospital anytime for non-emergency situations.
